Reporters Without Borders, also known as Reporters sans frontières (RSF), is a French nonprofit association recognized as serving the public interest. It advocates for freedom of information, documents threats to journalists and publishes the World Press Freedom Index covering countries and territories worldwide.
Evidence and transparency: The index combines recorded abuses with questionnaire-based expert assessments of political, legal, economic, social and safety conditions. RSF publishes methods, its governance structure and certified accounts. Disclosed funding includes public subsidies, private support and publication sales.
Review scope: Last reviewed 2026-10-29: public-source desk review of official identity, geography, subject scope, available methods, access and institutional disclosures. Field operations, every finding and restricted services were not independently audited. Inclusion identifies a source to assess; it does not imply H/S endorses every position, appeal or finding.
